looking for a cheap 4 wheel vehicle in BA

I’m looking for a cheap 4 wheel vehicle in BA. Either to rent or to buy and sell again 3 weeks later.

Does any one have a friend or know people that can help me?

If I don’t find any vehicle how easy is to go from BA to Santiago in public transportations? How much time and how much money?

Hi Bernardo,
There is a 'Sticky' thread in the HUBB which details all of the problems with buying in South America. In Argentina you need a Residents Permit, and you probably will not be allowed over the frontier until you have been a resident for a year! Selling will be a problem to, it took me 3weeks here in Uruguay to register my purchase, and that was quick compared to Argentina I am told.

All is not lost though, the reason I know about the thread is because I have just sold my BMWf650 here in Uruguay and bought a 2CV-6 (called a 3CV here)

It is being prepared in BA for me to travel back up S.America and eventually to Canada where I will enbarque for England. Trouble is it will not be ready for at least a week. I plan to head west to Salta and Mendoza before returning through Paraguay to Brazil and along the Atlantic seaboard

If you want a lift, let me know, I shall probably be in the Oblisque Hostel in BA (Hostels Buenos Aires - Hostel Suites - Argentina Hostel Buenos Aires) next week sometime. I can let you know exact dates if you are interested.

Check up one of the backpacker sites, but many of the backpackers I met said they wished they had their own transport. The buses can be either luxury ones or local basic ones. It depends how much you want to pay. Some friends here went to La Paz by bus, it took 32hrs and no toilet on board, with just 2 five minute stops and the border crossing. Another thing I have noticed is that many of the torist class buses travel at night, so you do not get to see the country much.

But hey, this is a mostly a motorcycle site, so what do we know about buses? I'm sure others will try and help, but a backpacker site maybe of more use. Lonely Planet also lists travel agents in thier books, so could be another source of info. Tourist information offices may a so be able to help you

I think a regular bus to Bolivia would be a lot of fun for teenagers....for sure no toilet,no AA and so long.Maybe your friends just took one of those.
Bus service here is a great thing,they are fast(some times faster then alloud)clean and cheap if you consider fligths.Of course air is faster.So if you have little time take both ends into consideration.
Problem with bus today is the cut off highways.As there are road blocks!Yeah that is the way of protesting here.So some times buses are hold for few extra hours more.Be warned.
But in all i would take the bus.Ejecutivo you get warm meal,wine,breakfast etc.And allmost a bed!

Normally I’m not a back packer but this time it’s too far to travel with my own vehicle! ..,

Is there any place in BA to rent a quad? I will travel with me girlfriend and I don’t have enough experience to travel in a bike with 2 persons and the luggage...

Get in touch with some of the Land Rover guys at this site landroverclub.com.ar they might be able to help you.

I was in Coimbra last summer with my daughters and will be going back this year, I just love Portugal. I also own a few LRs and wish I could take them with me but it's too much money.
