Out of the Mountains and running fine
Hello all,

I have not touched the shock yet, but I will look into the last temp fix in Piura (tomrrow night).

The $1100 shock in Quito is too much for me since I only spent $2500 on the bike. So I am going to order one. I have contacted Klaus at Hyperpro today to see what he has to offer and what price. KLR650.com has a replacement for $375. I am weighing price versus getting me back home without any more issues.

hey dude
the one from klr 650.com is a progressive and is rubbish ,do a little reasearch ,your $375 so good luck and i dont think the free postage will extend to south america

Hi, hope you fixed and on the road again, $1100 could be right for good shock. The grease idea sounds interesting! Rode G.S. 2 up on tar and was very demanding, on bad roads would be ### awful. All the best from Aus.

Moving along with out the rear shock
Hello,

Here is the update....I have continued along without the rear shock and no mods (checking each day for damage to the frame). With the weight in the back it stills corners well and is very stable on the pista. We have skipped out on the pure dirt roads but continued to take the mountain routes. I have a new shock arriving in Costa Rica with a friend of mine who will take over driving my second KLR while my first friend goes back to the real world with a great job for the summer.

So all is quite on the riding front and we are enjoying Colombia. A few more days 'till Cartegena and trying to find a boat. Thanks for all of the suport and ideas.

See you all on the road one day!

there is a bike friendly place called ,hotel marlin in cartagena, jose, if he is still there is great ,a good place to hang out while waiting for a boat

In talking with Paul at Casa Kiwi, I was informed the the moto angel guys have packed up their shop and headed to Canada or something. There are some new guys running the shop. I did not get a chance to meet the new crew as my boat came up in Cartagena and I have to run to get there.

None of my email spanish and english were replied to from Motoangel. Sorry I cannot be more up to date, but that was what I was told down here.

Really? Too bad, but good for those guys i guess! I just noticed i gave them a thumbs down, my bad! Hector has helped a lot of us travellers over the years!

difference in shocks
I have no shock preference so Canoeguy would you please enlighten us to the advantages of the Jalen shock you mentioned in your post vs a progressive one. Are you opinions based on what you've read or extensive experience with either one? Thanks, Chris

New shock in Panama
Hey guys.....

Just wanted to update. Got the new shock my buddy brought down. And put it in just in time for some great roads in western Panama on the way to the Rio Sormeno boarder crossing.

I need to give a big thank you to Klaus at EPM Performance Imports. Since I did not have time to have one of his shocks built into for my friend to arrive in Panama he sent an old one he had in the shop down with my friend and I will get the smart hyperpro shock when I get back to the states.

All is well and riding nicely.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
