Morocco travel times

Hi,

I am planning a trip by 4x4 to Morocco and am trying to calculate some travel times - whilst its easy enough to get distances off a map, travel times are not so easy to calculate as maps don't show road or typical traffic conditions. My intention is to cover a few of the pistes in Chris Scott's book, so the timings I am after are those that will get me into the areas of interest as quickly as possible in order to maximise the on site time - always without wanting to turn the trip into a marathon Once in the south I will spend several days exploring the area.

The routes I am interested are:

Cueta to Fez
Fez to Tinerhir via Gorges du Ziz, Ar-Rachidia and Goulmina
Zagora to Marrakech via Ait Benhaddou, possibly picking up the Achaoute - Telouet route
Tata to Marrakech via M10, Taroudant and Tizi n Test
Marrakech to Cueta

thanks

Reinhard

Reinhard,

Cueta to Fez - This should be possible in 1 day if you get an early Ferry.
Fez to Tinerhir via Gorges du Ziz, Ar-Rachidia and Goulmina - Not sure if you would make it in 1 day, We spent the day getting from Fez to Midelt. We did briefly look at some pistes though. It would be a long day if achieved. Give it 1.5days.

Zagora to Marrakech via Ait Benhaddou, possibly picking up the Achaoute - Telouet route - Unsure, but if piste conditions are slow, give it 1.5/2 days

Tata to Marrakech via M10, Taroudant and Tizi n Test - Not done that route, but having been across that area i would suggest budgeting on 2 days.

Marrakech to Cueta - Maybe in 1 long day. Suggest staying in/near Meknes and making it 2 days.

Have a look at this page on my website. At the bottom of the page is a sort of Diary to where we started and finished day, approx mileage etc. We didnt hang about, nor did we travel in the dark or rush too much in the morning (10am leave).

Website created using 350pages at www.350.com

Hope this helps.

G
