Libya..... What to see?

Hi,

Will be entering Libya from Tunisia 30th Sept or 1st Oct and passing through to Egypt (5 days in Libya), am currently securing a guide etc as this seems "easiest/surest" way to get through Tunisian border painlessly, currently the itinerary looks as below

Day 1-Arr. at Ras Al Jedir around 7:00 am-7:30 am-pass by Sabratha(Roman & Byzantine ruins)-Tripoli.(170 km)
Day 2-Tripoli-Leptis Magna(Roman & Byzantine ruins)-Misratha.(200 km).
Day 3-Misratha-Ajdabiya.(850 km).
Day 4-Ajdabiya-Al Bayda.(360 km)
Day 5-Al Bayda-Tobruck-Amsaad (388 km)

we are travelling on two bikes, me on a ktm 990S and my friend on an African twin, there are a couple of places in Tripoli, souks, grand mosque etc that we plan to see.... Is there anything else others could recommend outside of Tripoli? Roughly on the route that we are planning

The Libyan top 3? ;-)

Libya guide needed?

Hi, I am doing the same as you with a couple of bikers and we enter Libya second week of January 2009.

Starting to do the planning and am interested what arrangements you have made and which guide yuo have used? Are guides essential to travel through the country?

Thanks, Don

Guide to Libya

Hi,

we did pretty much the same 2 weeks ago but from the other side. TO us Sabratha was the best of the ruins, then Leptis Magna and Sirene. The Memorials in Tobruq was OK but not really my sort of thing.

We used Jannat Tours (index), Omar and Nuri was super helpful.

Guide we are using

Hi,

We are using www.fessano-w-tours.com and all appears to be going good, I recieved good response from Hadi there and everything seems to be on track, we are arriving in Libya from Tunisia the 1st October and the guide should be wating for us at the border. It is costly but no way to get around it as far as we could see, to save some costs you could possibly try and synch with others that are going at same time and split costs.

All the best Gary

Can recomend HAdi as well. Used him for 4 week trip down to Ghadamesh, Ghat and erg Murzuk last year. Would recomend these areas if you have enough time and desert driving experience...

The dude

+1

You won't meet a nicer or more helpful guy than Hadi @ Fessano. I've met a couple of his guides too and they're also stand-up guys.
