>just wondering, does the invitation letter mean that one can travel without a guide?

No. But some travellers have invited their escort (not really a guide) to go home after a few days and had no problems down south. Except Akakus NP. Here you must have a guide which you arrange in Ghat.

I got visa trough Czech tourist agency. But I don’t have information who arrange in Libya. I will pay on Libyan border:
- invitation and visa = 75 Eur.
- stamp to passport = 15 Eur.
- border formalities = 130 Eur. ( 1 motorbike ).
- help on border = 50 Eur. (for all group)
- permit for little group up to 5people, without guide = 260 Eur (for all group)

People from Libya called to my mobile phone me and said me instruction for border!

thanks, confirms what all the travel agents have told me so far, i.e that i need an escort not that i can "loose" him of course.

we (me and my range rover) are still looking for a second car or group we can join for libya over christmas, so if anyone is going we would be happy to hear from you.

kind regards
ulf

Robert,

We(two brothers and their father 2 cars4x4) are also planning to descend Libia to Niger, starting the week before Xmas. How long did it take you to get your invitation?
Please send me an e-mail to exchange some info.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
