One thing you might be unprepared for is the temperatures riding through Spain. I've made the mistake before of looking at the midday temperature forecast at Santander, but of course, that's next to the relative warm sea and is a sea level.

As your departure date gets closer keep an eye on the overnight low temperature forecast for places like Valladolid which normally falls below zero. In the winter I normally ride through Spain with heated jacket, handlebar muffs, heated grips and gauchos.

Of the routes down through Spain, going via Madrid is the easiest for accommodation as there are so many little hostels immediately off the free motorways.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
