recent flooding in Kazakhstan

Hi does anyone know if the resent flooding in Kazakhstan has calmed down.
http://www.ifrc.org/docs/appeals/11/MDRKZ004du1.pdf
This would seem to rule out crossing into Kazakhstan near Uralsk. The article gives province/area names but I haven’t been able to find them on google earth or maps.

I was planning on crossing into Kazakhstan from Russia down by the Caspian See, the A340 through Dashin. Does anyone know if this area is affected.
I think the floods are what are causing visa confusion, as I can’t now seem to get a straight answer on visa requirements.

I just went through the whole of KZ and I haven't seen any flooding.
But the closest I got to Uralsk was Atyrau and Aktobe. So I don't know about that specific area.
My best wishes from Barnaul!
Holger

You can find some of the names of the pdf file on www.bing.com/maps

Majority of them is in the Uralsk area, but a couple of them (Shalgay and Michurinsky) seem to be not very far from Astana.

Glad you found it helpful.
I ask you a favour: if possible, please report the road conditions after these floodings, because around middle of July I will have to ride back to Italy from KAZ and I will have to decide if to enter Russia at Uralsk or Orenburg.
Thanks, mate!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
