Atlantic Route Mauritania

Hi,

Does anyone know the latest news/status on the new Atlantic Route road from Nouadhibou to Nouakchott? Two of us plan to ride down in November (assuming that the coup doesn't affect things of course!).

Last I heard was that apart from about 80km, it was finished and sealed.

Has anyone marked it out on a map yet?

All help appreciated

Cheers
Craig

Hullo

As of June 2005 It was mostly sealed...80 % tar.... and the other 20% It was clearly marked.

All the road from the moroccan border to NDB was tarred aswell . You got better chances to get your lost in London .. than from NDB to NCKTT. I didnt even had to open the map , or to read the GPS. Is just follow the road/trail.

When are you heading south ?

Hi,

Many thanks for the info. Very much appreciated.

We're heading south on Nov 10th from London. Charity run to commemorate the life of the late, great, Simon Milward, the RTW rider who died in Mali in March 05. A big aim is to raise awareness of the healthcare by motorcycle charity 'Riders for Health' and a new Charity, 'Motorcycle Outreach', which will work closely with Riders for Health and is a step along the road of the realisation of Simon's dream for healthcare delivery in Developing countries.

Plan to reach Banjul, Gambia on or around Nov 26th. Plan to start heading North again on or about Dec 3rd. Arriving UK Dec 19th.

Two riders on two BMW GS 650 Dakars. Sponsored by BMW, Metal Mule and others. Craig Carey-Clinch and David French.

I'll be starting to get word out about the trip in September. Hoping people will support by offering messages of support and spreading word about the charities and keeping Simon's name alive.

Regards

Craig

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
