Is this doable?

Is this realistic for a RTW (Canada, via Europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India China?)

8 months planning time
4 months riding time
30,000 US$ - for bike, shipping and all expences

Thanks

I'd do 4 months planning, and 8 months riding :-)

But China is an issue, changes daily, and you will need to pay for a guide, and have Chinese plates. Your 30,000USD may hit issues there.

Yeah, it could be do-able. But as said, China is a problem, very complicated and costs severely. Burma is even worse, almost impossible! So people usually go to India or Nepal, and freight from there to Thailand or Malaysia. Or they go via Russia/Mongolia to Vladivostok.

Check out this previous thread, that hopefully gives some idea of the region:

edit. If you want to keep the costs down, spend less time in Europe, and more time in Asia! Especially India & Southeast Asia are very cheap compared to many other areas.

Just another option to consider - may work out cheaper to buy a bike in Europe and sell when you are done. Save some $ on the shipping of a bike from Canada.

That would be a great option (buying a bike in Europe) for a number of reasons - but I was under the impression that being a Canuk that's not possible for insurance and carnet reasons - have you done this or know of someone who has?

Thanks

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
