India to Italy

I am planning a trip leaving Madras in Feb/March spending three weeks in Rajasthan then across Pakistan, Iran and in to Turkey say April/May for another three weeks of touring then across to Italy to use up any time left over before leaving the bike in Tuscany and flying home to Australia. Has anyone else travelled through at this time of year,if so, how was the weather in general?

At the web site http://www.wunderground.com/ you can find historical temperature day by day for almost any locality in the world. I use it a lot to plan my motorcycle trip.

Anyway, spring time to ride in Italy is usually great, also if it can be very rainy.

Congratulations for your trip (unfortunately I did only half of it, Italy to Iran and back).

Hi Neva,

I can't help you with the weather predictions, but I'm planning a similar trip, leaving slightly earlier and taking a bit longer (India in January, hitting Turkey in maybe May, possibly a bit of Middle East if I've got time). It sounds as though you'll catch up and overtake me - look forward to seeing you on the road!

I'm interested in finding out about a ferry that allegedly runs Israel-Italy. Have you ever heard of that, Pietro? Perhaps I'll ask about it in the Middle East Forum.

Last summer I rode my GS all around the Mediterranean Sea, so I know very well the situation of the ferries: there is no ferry connection to Europe between Tunisia and Turkey. The ferry connection between Israel and Greece, infact, is now suspended due to the political situation in Israel.

The only chance is a cargo ferry run by Grimaldi (http://www.grimaldi-freightercruises.com/) leaving from Port Said, but they usually don't carry people and the schedule is irregolar.

So, if you don't want across Libya (very interesting country) to reach Tunisia, the only realistic alternative option is to take a ferry to Italy from Cesme or Izmir in Turkey.

Bye bye

Pietro

Pietro, the weather website is much appreciated it will help. I have to assume that the choice of travelling months will be ok as far as reasonable weather goes. Thank you again for youe input.
