Smile European alps ride

Planning a ride from Munich for app.2 weeks in September this year, through the alps and not over stretching myself. Got to kick it of my bucket list, before it is too late.

Any ideas are much appreciated.

Thanks mates.

Look up Route des Grandes Alpes for a starter. You can buy it as a marked up route and it's a cracking way to see the best of the French Alps.

Some great passes in Austria and Switzerland too. Stelvio pass ( Italy) and Furka Pass and the ones near it, ridden as a figure of 8 from Innertkirken (Switzerland) spring to mind.

Hard to go too far wrong in the Alps to be honest!

Enjoy

Look up the German Alpine Road, it runs from the Bodensee in the west to Berchtesgaden in the east.

Hi,

Hope you have a good time. Although September can be a clement month in the Alps, it can also be horrible with plenty of very cold penetrating rain/even start of snow on the higher passes. Make sure you have good ( warm) weather gear. Earlier in September is better than later. Best riding between mid June to late August. The attached might be useful. Please note if you are riding with a non European licence, you must ( by law) be in possession of an IDP. You might not need to use it, but you must have it.

Motorcycling in the Alps - A guide by MotoTrip

Another good guide to the Alps is a book by John Hermann called ''Motorcycling through the Alps''. In it's 5th Edition already, it's full of good rides and advice. Been available for a few years but still good reading to get you studying the maps.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
