Delhi-Leh on a Bike.
I live in Mumbai and I am planning a bike trip from Delhi to Leh around middle of May. I want to know if the Manali-Leh road would have opened by then. What is the best source to find out? I have read somewhere that the road had opened in the 11st week of May in 2009.
Also, I have a Bajaj Avenger bike. I am planning to transport it to Delhi by train. Can somebody please direct me to a good article about getting a bike by train from Mumbai to Delhi or just generally. Also, what should I expect to pay as freight? And if I cannot get my bike for some reason, what are the best options for renting a Bullet from Delhi. Guidance on rentals, deposits, bike conditions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Addendum:
I'd just called Gati and they quoted Rs. 3300/- for transport from Mumbai to Delhi. Rs. 350/- extra for packing. How much would train cost? Is the extra price for courier worth it? PS: The bike is not in my name but my Dad's name. Will the railways accept some sort of an authority letter signed by him? I can have it attested.
