Buenos Aires to Salta

My wife and I are headed out on a 13 day moto vacation from Buenos Aires to Salta on our Transalps. Anyone have any suggestions on must-sees, must-dos, must-stays, etc. in the area?

Probably headed in a northerly direction through Santa Fe and Santiago del Estero provinces. Any suggestions on decent accommodations to and from BsAs?

Thanks,

Matt

u don't mention when you are leaving, but don't go via S. del Estero. go via cordoba, eg, rosario, villa general belgrano, la rioja aimogasta, tucuman, cafayate and then up to tilcara, go to the salar grande (a must for me), la quiaca (just because its there and the road is special;
then return on the san luis side of the hills (for a change). If you leave today the forecast is NO rain for ten days

Cheers

Thanks, Charlie.

We leave the 15th of Nov and have 13 days. The reason I was thinking going straight up to S. del Estero is to be sure we can have a relaxed time in the northern regions and hold out the possibility we could do the Cordoba region on another trip. (We are expats living in BsAs for another year or so.)

I was thinking that doing all the area you mentioned would cause us not to be able to stop long enough to enjoy an area for a day or so. Is there a reason to want to stop anywhere for any length of time? We prefer the back roads once we get into the nice riding and small towns versus the cities. For example, when we went into the lakes district, we found we would have enjoyed staying in El Bolson a day or two much better than in the cabana we rented in Bariloche.

Would you agree or disagree with my thinking?

Matt

I'm in San Rafael now and recommend it, but even better is Cafayate (very small and quite). Both are very nice and have great wineries to visit.

Cheers

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
