Crossing from Peru to Bolivia was a piece of cake. I got three months for me and the bike right off. So no messing around in La Paz. Riding 95% of the time solo has not been a problem. Rode two up with a Swiss girl and her huge backpack from Arequipa to Cochabamba. Had to divert for two hours through farm fields to circumvent a road block between La Paz and Cochabamba. Then another road block...got off the bike went up the strikers...smiled and explained in sign language and some Spanish that I was tired, had dropped my bike in the mud...they raised the barricade and let me ride through.
Sorry but I have not been on the forums for a couple of months. I am hanging in Sucre, Bolivia for maybe three months. Killing time until October. Then fly home for two weeks. Leave my bike in either BA or Santiago...return and head to Ushuaia in November.
Then catch the Dakar 2014 January 12 when the bikes and quads hit Salar de Uyuni. I have turned my 6 month trip into an 18 month one. Taking time to enjoy.
Not sure how I far I will ride north, may ship my bike to Europe or Africa...unless I find a sweet SA lady to settle down with.
