Don't waste your time: contact directly SUNNY CYCLE!

If you need tyres you can contact Sunny Cycle, the "official" workshop for overlanders in Kuala Lumpur.
He has a very long list of tyres (several pages, trust me) and many of them are available right away for installing and balancing. The last time I've been there also Heidenau Scout was in stock.
Furthermore, he loves so much overlanders that you won't pay any labour!

SUNNY CYCLE
37, Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur
3°10'47.13"N, 101°42'3.78"E
Email: info@sunnycycle.com.my
Telephone: +603 4021 1661/6611

From a practical point of view I won't suggest to contact the number above by Thekensportler (Ash, but actually his name is Abu of Motowerk Technica) since in that workshop they don't keep any stock (maybe only Karoo 3), furthermore they don't install tyres. I won't suggest to contact him also from a personal point of view since his temper could be quite annoying: he hides his lack of confidence behind a shield of arrogance, a very unpleasant mix.
I share my experience: once I was in need of a cheap front tyre capable to last just a few km, I called him and he offered me a used one for free. But when I get there the real offer was a pair of almost new tyres (I couldn't get only one) upon payment (not even so cheap: comparing to EU prices it was exactly the price of a new pair). When I told him that I needed to think about it he suggested me to go home, masturbate, and take a decision. WTF??!

I hope it helps!

PS: I have to admit that in the end it was a good deal, but I was just lucky that a customer left those tyres there. If I wasn't in a rush I would have searched for another solution...

Wouldn't recommend

I can only support what 300kg said. I was in need of 2 x new fronts and 2 x rears for our two bikes. As you can't get Mitas tyres directly from Malaysia we ordered them from Singapore directly to moto Werk technica. The shop doesn't have a proper tyre machine and gave our sets of E10 Dakar's to the local tyre shop. Due to the hardened sidewall of the Dakar the local shop was struggling to put them on without nipping the inner tubes.
In the end they wanted me to pay for 3 inner tubes and extra for unusual long labour. I paid for one and hoped that this would be the end of it. Far from it.
After I took delivery of the bike it was apparent that even this inner tube was punctured and being fed up with the whole episode I took the bike to sunny cycles as they have a proper tyre machine. Only then it became apparent that huge chunks of my head were missing and have been gauged out.

Anyways, long story short, I got it sorted with the help of sunny cycles.

Ps: if you are travelling through Malaysia on a carnet order your tyres directly from Malaysia and use your carnet at customs to waive import tax as it is only a temporary import.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
