Buying a trail bike for travelling in South America
From my experience, the best place in South America to buy a dual purpose motorcycle and tour legally around the continent is in Paraguay, but you need to find a trustable vendor.
I was given this address by a motorcycle club in Formosa, south of the border, where they get their motorcycle fixed and imports parts that can t be found in Argentina. The owner is Brazilian which in that country is a warranty. They wield, customize, paint, personalize and..have bikes for sale.
