any of you guys have tried it, I shot in Raw format and while I travel I need to save my pict somewhere, most of the time on a laptop but this new toy seems good .

It looks good but I wait until I have seen the ASUS $200 laptop first because then I can write my trip reports on it too.

I sometime travel for 100 miles off road and want to be very light so the laptop can stay home , I need at least 60 to 80 G to store my pict so if I take a laptop it need large memory , I actually have two the smallest is the sony which is great but a bit large and fragile to carry.

Hi,

It hasn't been reviewed or tested on most of the main forums yet (dpreview, robgalbraith, luminouslandscape,...), but Canon is now selling their new storage devices called M80 (and I believe an M40 or M60 as well). Good thing for Canon shooters is: you can zoom RAW files apparently, and it uses standard Canon batteries, like the ones from the 5D.
This means only 1 charger, and you only need to get some cheapo batteries, which will fit both the camera AND the storage device.
I've seen some BP-511 batteries, non-Canon but more powerful than Canon's own batteries, for as little as $15. Got loads of them (cheap and small) and you'll be completely independant of mains electricity in remote places.

I use most of the time the Nikon D200 or D2x as far as equipement,my picture are either extrem sport or people in general.

I use the older version of the jobo giga and love it is very stable and easy to use. I would have loved to have one with a preview screen but the cost was prohibitive as i wanted two units. So I just clear my cards in to the two vaults and review later. My only advice it get two vaults cus as they say in the digital world "If it is not in two places it does not exist"

May I also strongly recommend the Archos Gmini 400,402 series. Tiny, tough, easy to pack and useful. CF card port on left side copies directly at pretty high speed. 20gb... not sure if that's suits your storage capacity (but that's still alot of photos).

Just out of production but can still find one around on ebay.

Too late probably to be of use to you HendiKaf - but maybe someone else is looking:

We used two of these on a trip through the Namib and South Africa, lasting 4 weeks. Probably 95% gravelly, rutted, dusty and potholed roads.

BOTH FAILED HALF WAY THROUGH THE TRIP!

Vibration, dust and heat, killed them both. We lost over 300 gigs of photos (we were able to recover some of it when we got home - but it still left us without storage on the trip)


Don't know what terrain you are riding, but choose SOLID STATE.

You are right Impasto , I already bought the Epson 5000 80 G, plus I will use a portable Hard drive.
