Stuck in Anchorage..No flights to Magadan?

Flight plans were changed by Magadan airlines from the 23rd to teh 30th of June for the first flight of the season. Now word is that the 30th will not go,...Appears it's a financial prob with the new owners of Magdan airlines.

Anyone have any info about Magdan airlines for this season? Alternatively, a flight to Korea and then ferry to Vlad, but I really want to ride the road of bones.

No new news about Magadan Airlines flights to/from Anchorage for the rest of the season, so to those considering this route be ware. Korea seems the only way to Russia without Carnet.

Magadan

Hi all, was with Mark in Anchorage, spent 10 days wishing for a solution but none this year it looks like. The only solution is the cul-de-sac approach if you have a month to spare....

I know of 6 people I've met en route from Vlad or Mongolia who have switched to Vlad/ Sarabino as an alternative. Also met Klaus from Hanover who is in Mongolia waiting on 2 friends from Ulm Germany who've gone up and are on the way down from Magadan. They say it's only 3 rivers which are passable ok and 100km swamp which is hard work but doable. (BMW 100 GS and 1100 GS)

If you're considering going up check with Igor from Magadan Airlines in Anchorage who is up to date (mobile +1 907 3507014 ) say hi from Kevin from Dublin who was badgering him for 2 weeks !!

When "stuck" in ANC, don't miss Humpy's or F Street station. Humpy's has loads of good on tap and a great menu- try Alaskan Amber. F Street overcame a ban on its famous free slab of cheese- check it out. D

Magadan Airlines

Magadan Airlines went bust early May.....it looks very likelly that there will be no flights to Anchorage this year. I spent a week of asking around the airport...no luck. I ended up flying to Valdivostok, seoul and LA...not my planned route, but the only way to get to the US at the time!!

There are some boats to Vlad (none to Alaska)....but i doubt if you will get on one.......

Finally made it to Magadan. In a Internet office cafe (win2000/dial up 788mhz PC) and no way to up load pics anywhere in Magadan (so I'm told). Came by plane from Vladivostok (flew into Korea and took the Dung Chun ferry to Zurubino-drove to Vladivostok), while the bike should arrive this week via ship (cross fingers and spit over left shoulder three times). Hope the bike makes it safely and there is no damage from it being lifted onto the boat and that all my stuff is still on the bike when it arrives (1,500 Ruble fee was added to the bill by the shipping company manager-undocumented-for the Capt. & Crew).

Not much to see in Magadan, and now I'm a month behind as KJ wrote. Can't wait for the bike to arrive Wednesday 26th.

Internet Cafe and "Sights" in Magadan?

Well done on getting to Magadan. Now all you have to do is ride that awful road to Yakutsk...There are two museums to visit in Magadan; the geological museum on ul. Portovaya, and the more interesting Regional Museum on prospekt Karl Marx. There's also the Mask of Sorrow on the hill as you leave Magadan - just to cheer you up.

If you head up the hill (away from the airport) on Prospekt Lenina you come to the big roundabout under a TV tower. This is Ploschad Komsomolskaya. There is a big general store on your right that follows the road away from the roundabout (toward the harbour). There is a doorway on the street at the very last building in the complex with an attendant on duty. There are good internet facilities on the fifth floor, down the hallway 2nd or third door on the left. Trust me. I saw a lot of students when I was there. I was able to upload photos (slowly) but it worked. The woman in charge was very helpful.

Best of luck on the road. Remember to turn left at Kadykchan and follow the road to Tomtor.

Internet in Magadan

Another internet site in Magadan.....head up the hill and turn right on the street that has a ship as the front of a restaurant. Keep going until you see a side street (on your right) with a building with a blue roof. In there is the telephone office where the internet is quick and cheap. Also, a very pretty girl runs the place!!
