Altai road option

I am in Novosib, heading south to Mongolia, and on some maps there is a road (?) that diverges from the main one in Ust Sema, to Chemal, that follows the Katum river and rejoins the m52 near Ondugai
Is it worth taking it (is it a dead end)? or should I stay with the main m52. As anybody done it?
I have to be in Mongolia the 4th July...

Thanks
Cheers

We are in Barnaul heading the same direction. We are on a DRZ400 and a WR250R. Once we get our replacement tyres we will probably follow the mainroad south east to Mongolia.
