Question Alaska Highway affected by BP Prudhoe Bay shutdown?

I'm planning on heading up to Prudhoe Bay and back in about 3 weeks' time. The indefinite closure of BP's Prudhoe Bay field a couple of days ago seems a pretty big deal, cutting off 8% of the US's oil supply I think.

I'm just wondering if this is likely to have any effect on the ability of the public (i.e. me) to travel from Fairbanks to Prudhoe for pleasure? Like they might decide to close it to all except essential oil workers during this "emergency"? Although I doubt there are that many people travelling up there on leisure anyway, so maybe they won't bother closing it?

Not a worry

I think the opposite is more likely. The traffic will probably increase due to the repair activities on the pipeline.

That is not to say that this will make travel any better.

scdan3, thanks for the info.

Have you just been there? My bike's shipping to Anchorage today, arriving early hours Sunday. I should be collecting Tues/Weds a.m. (Bank Holiday there Monday).

**EDIT** Just seen your other post, and that you're in Watson Lake. **EDIT**

Dalton's fine!

No checkpoints, road in excellent condition, now dried and firm. I had thought that the whole pipeline was undergoing work, but it seems that it's only some smaller BP ones up the top.
