Touchscreen GPS/ phone etc

Hi folks.

My touchscreen "smart" phone recently cracked its screen while sitting in my empty pocket, it did have one of those screen protector film things on it.

To unlock the phone you need to type in a code to the screen.

The crack in the screen means only a tiny corner of it is still receptive.

So I now can't unlock and therefore use it, or access all the stuff I had on it, without perhaps sending it off to be repaired. It can't be remotely unlocked by the provider.

So I'm just pointing out that all you lovely people using for instance a Garmin Oregon or Dakota cos of its small size (thats what no buttons gives you!) either need a case, wrap it in cotton wool, or buy something else IMHO!!

Ouch. Good reminder to periodically sync or "back up" smartphone data to a PC.

Handheld GPS devices however tend to be much more rugged than smartphones. For example both the Oregon and the Dakota have water and shock-resistant casings.

The touch-screen LCDs on these units can scratch (a screen protector is recommended) but the screen wont crack or break unless subjected to a lot of abuse.
