Syria/Jordan what GPS maps available ?

I might be heading out to Damsacus and then want to head to Jordan. I have a Garmin 60c and am looking for some mapping software . I can't see anything on Garmin's own site so wonder if anyone knows of anything else out there that may be compatible ?
Cheers
Gecko

3 garmin 'maps' for Jordan Map list

You'll need cGPSmapper to do the registay/garmin .tbl etc files.

Nothing for Syria .. you'll have to use 'Wanderlust' there?

Hi Frank
Thanks for the link. I'm not familiar with what I have to do to get these onto my GPS 60c - I'm reasonably PC literate but don't know what you mean about the registry stuff - can you enlighten me some more please ?
Thanks
Gecko

Mapsource (Garmin) uses two files to 'see' a map set ... a *.tbl and the same name with a .img extention. From that site I linked .. you get one .img file (or a few in my case) .. not the .img file first mentioned.. You need to 'generate' these files .. using umm some program I cannot remember the name of .. will do this .. it actuall generates a .reg file too..

Humm will look it up later .. it is related to cgpsmapper .. avalible from the link if you go 'up' the tree .. I'll have to sort this out and writ it up properly so others can understand it ..

Later? Much later .. Put all of them in one directory the .reg file, the .tbl file and the two (at least) .img files. I use C:/Garmin/FMaps .. you can use anything but mapsource/garmin put their files under C:Garmin so I followed. Then you need to open the .reg file and edit it to lead to the directory you chose .. it will have a default directory .. but I use mine so have to change it .. you'll see the format it uses.. Once that is correct .. double click on it and confirm you want the registary changed .. if you have the .reg file wrong than mapsource won't open and will suggest you reload mapsource .. a pain .. but you can 'undo' your reg entry but using regedit.. More sense later..

Oh .. do you have smellybikers 'wanderlust' map set .. that will give you some rough coverage...

Cheers Frank.
It sounds similar to something I did a while back to upload the European speed camera database so I think I understand what you are on about . By coincidence , I uploaded the demo of the Wanderlust maps yesterday. they look pretty good so I may use that as a possible solution. I need to study what you have just said and see if I can figure out the best way to go. the Garmin 60c only has 54mb internal memory so I may need to see which allows me to upload most detail. I'm not too bothered about the turn by turn navigation stuff - Wanderlust would tell me where I am on the map and with a half decent sense of direction I should get to where I need to go.
Thanks again for your help

Sending you a PM . on the hubb

---
1.9M for wanderlust v1.6 sirya+jordan + bit of turkey
garmin world map = 1.13M

World Map v2.01 and WL 1.6 appear to be about the same in level of info for Jordan.

The added jordan map is about 0.3M so it does not appear significant in size.. but straight roads (in cities) only take 2 points to describe them, and it does appear to have a lot more city detail.
