Replacement for Garmin Quest

Hi,

My Garmin Quest has finally given up service. A Zumo is too expensive to buy, so I'm looking at another similar to the Quest.
Is there a successor for the Quest? Anything around £90-£120 that is better value than the Quest? Anything that can read the newer maps?

Are mobile phone GPS devices an alternative? Which mobile phone would you recommend (value for money, don't need to be the latest gizmo...)

Although I'm not a great fan of MapSource, I'd like to stick with Garmin as I have a lot of maps for it.

Cheers
BJorn

I recently, stupidly, managed to loose my Quest. I thought about the alternatives, and two sprang up. The Nuvi 550, and the eTrex Legend HCX. The Nuvi was about £250 and the eTrex I found at £150. Despite cooler features on the Nuvi, I only opted for what I really needed and the eTrex fitted the bill. It can do everything the Quest did, with a Micro SD slot as well.

Have a look here:
Legend

or here:
Nuvi 550

Another decent outlet is here:
GPS Warehouse

So far very pleased with the little eTrex.

Garmin sent me a replacement Quest for £65 after mine died and I sent them mine. Its basically like a brand new unit. Might be worth a shot.

Garmin offer an "out of warranty repair" for a fixed fee (£65 I think) My mate smashed his Map60 to bits and Garmin sent him a replacement. They called it a re-manufactured unit but it looks like new.

Forgot to say - the quest died whilst offroading. Jumped out of the mount, no antenna any more after 'touch-down' Guess Garmin won't do a repair on that

What about the GPS 60 CSx (if I find one second hand). Does it take the same maps as the Quest, or does it take new maps like the "zumo" does. Or both?

It doesn't matter. My antennae was held on by duct tape after some kid in India tried to pull it off. You send whats left of yours to Garmin, pay £65 and they send you a refurbished or new unit:

Thank you for contacting Garmin(Europe)Ltd.

If you would like to have the unit repaired to new or replaced with a
re-furbished unit we could arrange that. The cost for a Quest would be
£65.00 GBP and in return you would receive either you fully fixed or a
refurbished unit either way which ever you receive back would come with
a 12 month guarantee.

To go ahead with this please call us on 0808 238 0000 and we will book
yours in and take payment details.

If there is anything else I can help with please let me know.

Kind regards

Yes this is true - however garmin have ran out of quests now and are replacing with Quest 2's which are a nightmare.
I sent mt quest back and got a quest 2 replacement its so slow on redraw.

However for £65 it is worth it!

send it to garmin, and if they cant help you see if they will send you a recon 60CS series instead for £65, they may go for that.
they are very comparable in use i liked the CS, the upright screen made more sense for road routing and would have got one after i sold my quest but i got a zumo for a ridiculous price.
