2610 waypoint problem

Hi I bought a second hand Garmin 2610.
I save a waypoint such as a campsite before I ride off some where, if I use the waypoint to return to camp it will direct me miles out of the way this has happened twice in the last 2 times I have saved my camp as a way point.
When I finally found my camp last night I saved the waypoint again. In the morning I checked the location of the waypoint and the GPS was telling me to head 450 meters east I had not moved the bike atall during the night.
Any idea whats wrong?
Thanks

2610

Hi the 2610, i believe will always snap to a road so if your camp or current location is off road, ie in a field or off road etc it wont know where you are. Also with respect to the routing what are your road preferences set too ie prefer highways, major roads etc. Have you got any avoidances on for example avoid toll roads?

Sorry illustratedman, but I disagree. The waypoint should save as an exact position and I can't see what the 2610 settings have to do with it. I've set hundreds of waypoints nowhere near roads.

bolla, the waypoint position is set when you hold down the page button, not when you press OK. So if you have moved in the meantime, the waypoint will be back where you first pressed the page button.

The next time you try this, have a look at the GPS status screen (menu, info, GPS) and check how many satellites the unit can see, and the accuracy.

Tim

Waypoint probs

Where are the waypoints your are saving, ie under heavy tree cover, mountainous etc. I have lost reception in both of those types of location with my location jumping off on the gps then rturning when i regain reception. The 2610 has dead reckoning which means this should'nt really happen too badly. You say the gps directed you miles out of the way, when you found your camp was the waypoint in the correct location and th egps had just taken you on a long winded route? or was the waypoint in the wrong location like in the morning?
