Exclamation Returned from a sucessful if not unbelievable trip along the atlantic route. Report

Hello all

I just wanted to let people know that we made it back to UK soil in one piece after a 3 week Atlantic trip. It was filmed as part of a documentary series called Sahara The Truth and will be released after post production has taken place. I am just putting the finishing touches on the blog if anyone would like to read about how we got on. I hope it will be the most up to date and detailed blog of the Atlantic route and provide a good source of information for people looking at both the crossing of the desert and selling cars in Mali. After reading the majority of trip reports from others who have done this similar route i don't think that what happened to us was typical, and i hope it isn't we were very lucky to be back at all.

I would stress however that we attempted this in Summer and during Ramadan which i would not recommend anyone does and were probably contributing factors to what happened to us.

Im up to day 17 at the moment and will update the blog over the next 2 days to capture the rest of the trip.

Thank you to everyone on this forum for your guidance, support and helpful advice. It became invaluable!

Rex

Hi Rex

Glad you have made it back in one piece. Some of the photos brought back memories especially the ones near Dhakla. It still looks exactly the same as when I done my first Sahara costal crossing in 2000.Are there still old battered Mercedes vans carrying people across the border ? I remember I jumped in one with about 20 other people.

I found Mauritania to be a particularly nice country especially the areas near Tadjikia and Oudane (Adrar).Ending up spending over 3 weeks travelling around Mauri mostly by hitchhiking made some good friends and contacts out there.

I must say when I saw the title of ''Sahara the Truth'' I thought it might of been a documentary exposing the workings of AQIM in Mali or Niger !!

Best of luck with it.
