morroco in sept
hi all, planning on doing morroco in sept.any advice on anything would be appreciated as myself and missus are leaving our comfort zone of europe for the first time(on a bike).away from the tarmac how much realistically can we expect to be able to explore on road tyres?we have free camped around europe many times, often in forests down dirt tracks as well as on beaches ,so light off road is'nt a problem.another thing to crop up in our drunken planning,is nasty bitey thing's like scorpions and snakes.any experiances/tales welcome!we plan to camp,so any advice would be good,
? .thank's for any info,no matter how trivial,monsterman Last edited by Chris Scott; 3 Feb 2011 at 20:18. |

I would second your getting a copy of Chris Scotts guide, used it myself last October. I don't really get the booze thing, you can get it, but drinking isn't something the locals are impressed by.

Beer & wine in Morocco
Sorry Greg, I disagree.
Most Moroccans are very tolerant of other folks who drink alcohol. It's not against the law, it's served in most hotels (but generally not inside the medinas). Like us, no-one is very impressed drunken behavoiur. Morocco has been producing excellent wines for many years. How about a Chateau Roslane Premier Cru Les Coteaux De L Atlas AOC? As good as any French wine - not cheap at £100 a bottle. More practically, Les Celliers de Meknes produce very good red and white at anything from £3 a bottle. Flag is brewed locally. IMO best served really cold. Most cities have a Marjane supermarket - much the same as a French hypermarket - with a and wine department. There are usually separate tills at the checkout for those buying alcohol. It's not done under the counter and you'll find locals making purchases too. You'll struggle to buy and wine in more remote areas.Happy trails, Jojo

Hrrumph. I learnt to stay away from the hotels where they serve
since the rowdyness will interfer with a good night's sleep.Usually one such hotel in a city like say Tiznit or Tarodent, and the locals who go there don't go for a few Martinis, their aim is to get piss drunk cheap. Nothing funny about it. What I personally enjoy is having a sip of whisky in the desert. And a piece of smoked ham. |

morroco in sept
thank's for the advice, drinking in morroco certainly has different opinon's!were not planning an alcohol fueled trip around morroco but a few 's after a good hard day's rideing is perfect.not the hundred quid stuff though jojo1!!! more a whisky in the desert. chris scott's book sound's very informative and hopefully will give useful info in our planning.looking on tinternet still can't find much on off road with road tyres,so maybe this will help.trix,we'll be in morroco for two to three week's ourselves so maybe our path's will cross.you'll see us flat out under a palm tree after one or two flag 's!![]() your more than welcome to join us! cheer's |
