Newbee with KLE 500 Issues

Morning Guys and Hello, im hoping to get some help from you guys here, today i was given a 92 KLE 500, in a bit of a sorry state but will make a nice project, the trouble is i cant get the bugger to start. The bike has been garaged for over a year, it has had a new ignition barrel and that is about it, I have checked the wiring diagrams and all looks ok.

The bike will not work using the start button (no clicking at solonoid)

Checked solonoid and by accident bridged the 2 wires the bike attempted to turn over

however no spark at all from either lead

Battery is ok

Read a little about this earlier and discovered kick stand switch and another which is apparently on the clutch (i will try these first thing in the morning

any other ideas about what it could be? all other electricals seem fine ie lights horn etc

any advice is much appreciated

Chris

Just incase anyone has a simlar problems I find out that the problem was with both the kick stand and clutch switches, sorted these out and tried to fire with no luck, new set have plugs have done the trick though.

Next stop full re-spray and clean up

If anyone interested i'll post up picks of the project

Hi Chris.

Glad you got it to fire up, the kill switch does seem to cause problems. I always make sure i wd40 it after every wash and give it a good few on/offs.

Some pics would be nice. Where in Wales are you?

Regards
Roy

P.S Use photobucket for your pics and then link to this site.

Hi avakad!

I probably have a similar problem with a friends' KLE 500. It starts without a problem but dies when I put it in gear and release the clutch. Where are the switches located on the bike, and how did you fix them?

Cheers,
Magnus

There is a switch at the top of the side stand. It kills the bike when you let the clutch go with the standd out. Lots of WD40
