KLE pics
Hello Guys.
I thought I will start a new thread for all the KLE pics.
Here are some of my pics.
1. If you cannot read the green sign, it says: Dangerous mountain passes ahead. Yippee!
2. Tea break at a water crossing.
3. Back home after 650km in 2 days and totally knackered.

Hi all
These two pics were taken on a morning recent ride into the countryside between Richmond and Ixopo in KZN, South Africa. The R56 road includes a proper mountain pass with tight second gear hairpins and awesome fast sweepers.

What did you use to make that screen? It looks good from what I can see.
I see your numberplate also got chewed on by the tyre shark.

Hello Nicki.
I see you found the site again.
I bought a 3mm perspex sheet at about R120 I think, and then removed the originanl screen, drilled a hole through the new screen at the bottom in line with the right hand center srew, mounted it onto that screw, and then used a heat gun to mould the screen around to the other center bolt. I then continued the procecess to the rest of the screws, alternating between left and right. I then cut away the corners top and bottom with a mini grinder to make it look right. I will put the measurements of the starting sheet on this post, as the width need to be correct, otherwise the mirrors touch at full lock.
A few things I need to change: Do not tilt the top of the screen forward as the original screen. Make sure to keep the airgap at the bottom centre of the screen. These 2 things keep the buffeting down behind the screen.
Cut the screen corners myself, and not pay R120 to someone else to do it.
Use a 2mm sheet. After you have bent the sheet it is very sturdy, and the 2mm heats and bends much easier. Also need to be more careful with the heat gun around the plastic fairing.
It is actually quite easy to make, and you can basically make the screen as big as you want. You will need to cut recesses for the mirrors if you want to make it any wider though. If you buy a 2mm sheet, will easily safe about R600 for an aftermarket screen.

On my KLR's the tyre shark eats plates as a whole :-)

tire shark
Hello Guys.
I did not even realise that it happened, until I got off the bike and saw it. I do not have knobblies on the back, so I take it that it was caused by flying rocks. Any idea to stop this from happening?
I went throught prince alfred's pass, and baviaans without it happening again. (I forgot to take the plastic number plate off) It could be quite costly if I need to replace the plate after each trip!

I removed the reflector, and bought another one which I stuck to the number plate light shield with double sided tape. I then had a smaller plate made to try and avoid this, but low and behold, the tyre shark struck again.
I then noticed that one of the bolts connecting the black plastic to the mudguard was not tightened all the way. I tightened it, and the black plastic thingie is now more secure. It is still flexible, I don't know if it will eat my next numberplate, which I'll only put on the day before my drivers test to avoid it being eaten.

First picture is after last summer accident, second and third are in autumn after some make-up and face lifts - no part changed ... all reconstructed ... I still don't have money to buy new parts ... but they work fine
