Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2024
On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
The link to donate is here
This is an event that is happening in many countries around the world so others can join in near where you live. Last year I rode my Moto Guzzi V85TT but was blown away by the number of older bikes there so this year I will dust down my 1964 BSA A65 and go on that. I will be riding in the Derbyshire, England event.
Are any other HUBB residents taking part - if so what on and which ride are you going on?

I had it on my radar for this year but the date clashed with a running event I wanted to do. Now that the time is getting closer though I'm having to face the reality that I've not done enough training for the event, so may end up doing the ride instead. If I do it'll be on my 70's 400/4 Honda as my two strokes, well, let's just say two strokes and 'distinguished' make uneasy bedfellows I know a few other people who are doing it in the Oxford area so we'll go along as a distinguished biker gang

I'll be riding the Asheville, North Carolina, USA event, on my trusty, rusty 1998 Honda Shadow.

What a difference a week makes. Apparently in the UK there may be sighting of a light in the sky - not the northern lights this time - but our nearest star. Personally, I am sceptical as I am sure that we have entered inter stellar space as the weather has been so crap and grey.
For those taking part - have fun and be safe. For those not taking part - have fun and be safe - and take part next year, it is for a good cause
If anyone is at a loss about who to sponsor I am happy to accept donations at the following address - https://gfolk.me/JeremyBenson408212.
The money raised goes to research into prostate cancer and into mental health support and training.

I was quite amazed to glimpse that nearest star earlier and for a moment wondered whether I'd entered some sort of alternative universe. Or been transported to the south of France, which, I guess, amounts to much the same thing. Actually, as I was out running at the time, it was an unwelcome sight so I was quite pleased when it soon vanished back to wherever it goes in the white sky. I'd be happy to take another look, rare stellar visitor and all that, but to cut down on all that unpleasantness like heat and blinding light and stuff maybe next time it could come along at night.

It was rather bright wasn't it? For once I was a little warm on a ride - but that makes a nice change. It also confirmed that the new jacket I got recently has some windproofing effect so it will be used on my trip to the France HU meeting later this year. Happy days.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
