Long term parking Middle East
Hello people. I am planning to do my trip on my motorbike from the Netherlands to Cape Town. My first leg is to ride to the Middle East region, starting at the end of this summer to april. Then, go back home between april/may to sept/october, to escape the heat and to relax at home. And fly back sept/oct to continue traveling.
So, what are the options for parking my motorbike long term (let say 5 months), in one of the Middle Eastern countries? My preference would be Jordan.

But Tehran, but close enough maybe: when I was there, two Germans had their bikes parked in Tak-Taku guesthouse near Isfahan: https://maps.app.goo.gl/21otk9cZf3JVzvwV8
Maybe both of you can find something if you check out places on iOverlander?

For what it's worth, when I entered Iraqi Kurdistan a few days ago, my motorcycle was indicated in my passport stamp.

Thanks Sean, does that mean you would not be able to fly out if you wanted to leave it there for a few months?

In most countries you are not allowed to ¨just leave a vehicle and fly out¨. Although I can very well understand the reasons for wanting to leave a vehicle somewhere and continue a trip later on, many people/travelers think about this topic like if it is the most normal thing in life. Well, it is not.
We have to understand we are foreign citizens to another country. As foreigners we have some freedoms like to take our possessions with us into another country without paying import duties. But we also have obligations like taking our possessions with us, out of the country, when we leave that coiuntry.
When you ¨just leave¨ your possessions somewhere else you are illegally importing them and breaking customs laws.
There are reasons for it that countries have borders. Probably because there are no border formalities anymore in the EU and US many people have no experience anymore with those formalities and don´t know about (or don´t think about) the meaning and the rules of crossing borders.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
