Adding my thanks as well. I arrived late, ate and drank myself silly, saw some nice countryside and met a lot of nice folks....plus re-encountered people I'd met on two continents and met a whole passel whose on-line commentary I'd appreciated.

The only thing I missed was the very helpful B.C. resident who was going to bring me some sprocket-changing tools. Sorry, but I had no idea I'd be a few days late, that the encampment would spread over hill and dale or that the attendees would fill Legion Halls and Senior Centers with such ease. My humble thanks, whoever you really are, and my apologies at being unable to take advantage of your generosity.

I just spent a couple of days mountain biking down in Rossland, reminding me why I also ride an internal combustion-powered machine. Look for me wandering the hills for a week or two until my tenants move out and I settle back home

Had a great time, listened and watched many great stories, ate great food, met numerous great people. Thank you Grant, Susan, Ekke, Audrey and all the rest for making the event so much fun. It was all very inspirational.

Asked about you Mark many times, but couldn't find you. Have a good ride home.

Photos of the Nalusp HU meeting 1

(DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT GOOD AT REMEMBERING NAMES SO HEREBY MY APOLOGIES FOR NOT MENTIONING YOU)

My 1st ride report. Not much of riding, more like meeting with travelers from around the world. About 160 of them from Australia, Germany, Japan, England, Ireland, Alberta

As I was leaving home at 7:30AM on Wednesday the sun was 'ashining ;D ;D and heading to Rocky Mountain House only to meet an AlbertaDualSports rider with his wife on his way to GS (BMW) challenge. Had some coffee with them at the local Timmies. Thanks for the stickers.

Stopping at Moraine Lake (above Lake Louise), worth the ride even if among many cagers

Before the snow sheds on Hwy 1

Next stop was Golden, The Dualsporter advised to head to the Wolfsden (or such?) but I did not make that, instead rolled into the municipal campground. There I caught up with some Dutch tourists that were a bit lonely...? Good to speak a bit of the old mother tongue once again. Also gave them some advise as they were still going to be in Canada for a week.

Galena Bay ferry, loaded with HU meeting bikes.

Next day got up and made my way to the local MackPukes on Hwy 1, got some breakfast and lunch at the same time and headed out the door. Revelstoke here I come.

Japanese biker from Tokyo, on his way down south after been in Alaska - broke an expensive Hepco Becker case, hing snapped.

The meeting was at Nakusp, a beautiful area in the Selkirk mountains British Columbia, in between talks I made my way up (half) a forestry trunk road. Bolders were getting a fair size and my front tire was complaining. even though a good experience to try it.

People mostly arrived at thursday afternoon, one after another, many on KLRs and BMW GS1200. Also many on trusty V-Stroms.

registration after 2pm was well organized.

Camping was at a first come/first serve basis. Just pitch your tent wherever there is space, makes for interesting camping. With picnic tables thrown in for good measure for evening chatting and drinking

German Africa Twin - one of 2

If you want BIGGGG cases on your Strom ask this man from Idaho - home made and very easy to ride with according to rider.

many people from around the globe.

camping all over the campground, after the first day they had to go to the overflow camping.

admiring a nice bike.

have to get me one of those Kermit chairs, fold up next to nothing and quite comfy I might add.

people swapping ideas and stories, some more exaggerated than the other.

in the evenings we had supper together at the local Legion hall, moved there after they found out the seniors center would not hold 150 people for supper.

talks were very entertaining with many good shots of various parts of the world, parts that i will not see. (most likely..?)

In my wanderings around Nakusp found this picturesque house

Grant and Susan Johnson - founders of horizons Unlimited.

even at the evening's Show & Tell meeting 2 guys showed up, a bit late..excused as he is from Ireland.

a lot of good food and conversation... topics ranging from Peru, Deutschland, Bulgaria to the local road to New Denver.

Nakusp HU meeting 2

the local stores are happy with the business, The Hut and this one place where i went for a good bagel breakfast

some time to stretch the legs after a talk/presentation,..and a few s :: :: yes at the Nakusp Legion

lake side in Silverton, one of the trips for coffee to New Denver...

swapping stories and experiences from a trip to Peru..with his 63 year old buddy from the states.

leaving for a ride to somewhere

another talk...2/Up on a old BMW from London to India and back via Africa...with 3 weeks of bike riding experience. quite some story

Got some ideas from other Strommers - guess I have to do this next

local Calgary BMW Garage was helping the poor Beemer owners unload some of there money. ;D

Grant Johnson showing how it's done...or not.

showing off bad and (a) good tire iron for on the road...(it's the one on the left in the picture, so he says)

well, that was it. If you have a chance, try to attend one of those Horizons Unlimited meetings - quite the gatherings.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
