meeting

Hi folks!
I am planning to come to the meeting in Germany, even if I have a lot of stuff to do and decisions to take, as I am planning to start my trip in the Americas in some weeks. What should I do if I cannot tell you when I arrive and how long I will stay? (thinking about your organisation/payment)
By the way:
What do you think about a one-way-ticket from Germany to Anchorage or Vancouver?
I would prefer to start my "sort-of-panamerican journey"in Alaska but do not want to be sent home directly by any officer who does not like my nose.
Neither do I want to throw away money.
Thought about buying an open return ticket from Santiago de Chile just to make my journey visible and to calm any officer down.
What do you think? I really want to get that done asap because I would like to fly VERY soon...
Thank you very much!
Cheers Toby

Pedestrians welcome?

Plan A: in a short while I’ll get the XT to the mechanic to have his opinion and see what can be done before Thursday afternoon.

Plan B: we re-exported our car back to Spain before we left for a year travelling, so no car, so s*it, no plan B.

What about a plan C?

Plan C: is there a designated camping area for pariahs, sorry, pedestrians in HU meetings? Any experiences?? I could bring my bicycle in the train to arrive on two wheels! Getting to Heidelberg is feasible, getting to Ober-Liebersbach seems like a pain (1 whole night in a train station, not enough time).

I cross fingers for plan A and will check further plan C, just in case!

Esteban

I don't think there's a pedestrian area, but as long as you don't snore too loud I don't think this should be a problem ;-) Getting to Oberliebersbach on foot is a bit of a problem, although I know a guy who's done it before. I believe by train you can go to Moerlenbach, and would ideally arrange for someone to pick you up from there or hope for a miracle as far as travel in Germany is concerned and try to hitch. Borrowing a helmet from someone else at the meeting, I'm sure it shouldnt be a problem to pick you up (travel light please - no suitcases :P)

Next Week :)

Hey guys!

This is my first post here (been lurking around for a while, seen some DVDs, etc) and I am very excited to finally take a step into the direction of becoming part of this community

I just signed up for next weeks meeting and am looking forward to meeting all of you! Ill be riding in from Munich.

Ive not done any "big" trips yet (studies seem to get in the way of that), so I don't have much in the terms of camping equipment or experience. I am now a proud owner of my first tent Probably going to embarrass myself on Thursday when I have problems putting it up the first time

I have a few questions:

What is the usual food situation? Does everyone generally come with a camping cooker, or do we usually go out an eat something together, or is there some sort of semi organised group cooking/bbq/etc event going on? I assume there are supermarkets near by.

@Claudio & Sonja - sounds cool, really looking forward to your presentation.

Thanks and till next week
-Ollie

PS:
Id be happy to help pick anyone up

Mate, no need to be embarassed if something desn't work - travellers are a friendly & helpful bunch

The meeting is right next to a "Gasthaus" where food is served all day long at a fair price. Some people do cook their own meals, but I suppose the majority makes use of the restaurant. The next shopping facilities are in Mörlenbach, which is about 3 kays down the hill.

See you on the road - I'm travelling from south of Munich, but haven't decided yet whether on Thursday or Friday....

Hans

Last minute

Hi,

Until now, I am not sure if I can come to the HU meeting in Germany.
Is it possible to come on friday afternoon and do the registration then?
I'll probably come by car (Suzuki Samurai)

jkrijt - registration on Friday should be no problem, every year there are a few people who can't make it on Thursday and it never was a problem

kolo - I'm not sure anymore, but I think the bar is open until 11pm or 12pm (possibly depending on demand ;-) With the tunnel at 8am that should be no problem though

See you soon!

Only today the surgeon got on the bike, will have an answer tomorrow. Cross fingers.

Already asked for a day off at work anyway. Apart from Plan C, I checked Plan D: 125 small good rented reasons to be there on two wheels (Thanks Jens, no batmobile yet, but still on the cheap...)

See you all,

Esteban

PS: Sirakor, I always bring spare ear plugs for my neighbours, so you will hardly hear the cement mixer running all night! Thanks for clue for trains and lift offer.
PS2: Ulticow, I pitched this tent on a public garden only to test all pieces were in, so no worries!

Early arrival possible - no problem!

Hi,

if somebody shows up today, no problem at all. Just say hello at the guesthouse, Family Meier will help you with everything. They are really nice people.

I will be there tomorrow morning. I could need some help to set up the tent...

See you - Jens

Hey Jens,
2 bikes packed and ready to roll from Brussels tomorrow morning. We're taking a scenic route down through the Ardennes and along the Mosel for a bit before heading east to Worms. The weather Gods will be banished and the sun WILL shine
See you tomorrow for dinner

Who needs a lift from Vienna / Austria to the meeting?

Just decided to drive from Vienna by car.

Will leave Vienna tomorrow at around 9am.

Looking forward to see you all there!
