Smoking 2000 XR600R

Hi Gang,

I tried the search on this and came up zero. Anyway, I've got a 2000 Honda XR600R that smokes quite a bit from the Exhaust after it has been ridden for a while. Seems to be worse after I ride downhill without the throttle on then open the throttle to go up the other side of the hill. My guess is worn valve guide seals but I sure would appreciate the opinions and recomended repairs of an EXPERT. My riding partners XR600r does the same on occassion but not as bad as mine.

Thanks, Bud

I think you are on the right track there. Obviously, check the valve guides while the valves are out and have a look into the cylinder to check for wear.

How many km/miles has the bike done?

It's blue smoke so it's burning oil.

smoke

if it is not smoking from start up, it is less likely to be the valve seals, more likely worn bores/sticky rings in my opinion. what mileage you say?

Sorry to disagree. If it smokes after running with the throttle closed that indicates worn valve seals. Piston/rings/bore will smoke under load.
