In memorium - Petra Knopf

Hey all,
Didn't know if this was this right place to post this but probably the best place to do any good. One of our own saints of the highway, Stefan Knopf (knopftours.com), had his wife Petra die from stomach cancer in the first week of January. She was only 42.

I met Stefan and stayed with him when I went around the world in 2002. He has been a tireless help to countless RTW bikers, from organising Green Card insurance, giving advice, to much greater acts of selflessness, for small benefit for himself - for example, one night of the 3 I stayed with him, he took off with his bike trailer in the middle of the night to pick up a touring biker whose shock had given up. He is in Heidelburg and the bike was in the Netherlands...

Stefan is such a fantastic, helpful person and a true biker; why life has chosen him for this tragedy seems brutally unfair. As well as his company, he now also has 4 children to look after singlehanded.

I feel very powerless to do anything now I'm back in Australia, I wonder if there is anything the international biking community can do to lessen his burden...if there is any help that can be given, even just messages of support, I'm sure it all would help Stefan in this very tough time.

May we all be grateful for what we have now.

Sad....how very sad. It makes me just stop and think how lucky I am .....

If you want to do something you can set up a fund raising page via www.justgiving.com and raise some money for a cancer charity or maybe a hospice and name this after Petra. I'm sure her husband would be touched by that kind of gesture . Then anyone who wanted could make donations onlline.

I know this has been used very effectively for fallen bikers and it enables the sad loss to become something positive.

RIP Petra
