Uprate Fork Spings
Who uprated their fork springs before they went. Ride an xt660 and many manufacturers sell progressive springs, but is it advisable to urpate (increase spring rate) them or change the oil rate aswell at the same time.

Joe,
It is worth sorting out the front end with regards spring weight and damping it is not difficult and most of the battle is knowing what you’re starting with before you change things. Measure the sag, get the spring rate measured. With standard damper rods you’re going to struggle to firstly make changes to either the rebound or compression. If you to alter the damping with fluid weight they both change. I fitted some Race Tech emulators to give me adjustable compression damping, this allow me to adjust the rebound damping with fluid weight. I made some dramatic changes to a Transalp and the results have been brilliant. As far as I am aware you need to change the oil to suit the spring rate. I know bugger all about setting up suspension properly, but am trying to learn by sorting out my new project Elefant, the front end is a bit soft so have got some progressive springs (harder as well) ready to go in.
What is the problem with prog. springs?
