Carrying a satellite phone across borders?
I'm considering taking a satellite phone for a RTW trip. Is it still considered a sensitive or forbidden item in some countries? (where?) Should I hide it to cross borders?

In Indonesia you are not alowed to carry a mobile phone across the border... I guess a satelite-phone is also mobile... and the custom-guy probably does not know the differance.
I don't know how strict they are. Maarten |

I would hide it and avoid finding out it's a problem. I even hide it, and the GPS, when crossing check points inside Egypt.

I would agree
Hide the phone and any GPS when going through borders. The check point guys invariably dont know what is what and have a habit of either detaining you for longer while explaining what the electronic devices do or even taking them from you
