Boots advice
Have heard that motorcross/ enduro boots whilst good, are not really suited for travlin, can anyone recomend some decent high legged water proofish boots

Hi Jabber


I have a pair of the latest Army issue Pro boots
And they are great they are Gortex lined so very waterproof and once they are worn in you can walk about in them all day with no problems
They won’t give you as much protection if you come off as motocross boots but they are a lot more practical I have done a few trips to the alps were I’ve done walks up in the mountains from the car parks Try that in motocross boots

A mate that left the Army got me mine but I think you can get new ones for about £120 and they are well worth if

Have a look at these - PROBIKER Traveller Motorcycle Boots

Or these - PROBIKER Sport Touring Motorcycle Boots

I have a pair and they are remarkably well made... Only £50 a pair too... Get 3 pairs for the price of 1 pair of SIDI's!

Silvermans are so damn expensive! It is often possible to get the same stuff much cheaper from other army surplus shops. That said, I have used them because they are so dependable. If your'e happy to pay a premium then they are Okay.

Sorry just noticed the "high" bit...PROBIKER Scout Touring Motorcycle Boots

But still pretty good value at £100. Note - I use "Getgeared" all the time, you order the stuff and it's there 2 days later.

Lowa boots
lowa make some great boots in medium and high leg versions.
Iv'e used some as my main bike and travel boots for 3 years and rate them.
For off road/trail tend to use mx knee/shin pads when travelling.

Altberg boots
Hi,
I’ve spent thousands on boots over the years and by far the best i have come across are altberg.
The boots are hand made in Richmond north Yorkshire.
I’ve been using altberg boots for the past ten years or so, and have a few pairs,
Hogg All Weather, Clubman Classic, All Weather Bandog Boot,
McKinley Trek Classic Original

they all perform very well

If you can get to the factory you get a much better price

I'll second the Lowa vote, I have done thousands of miles on the bike in my combat highs, as well as done some serious yomping on foot. They are like a trainer to wear, and offer brilliant ankle support.

Altbergs are meant to be good though, and their lacing system looks well swanky.

You could do a lot worse than the Oxtar Infinity:


I've been using a pair for the last year and I'm very happy with them. They're sort of halfway between a road boot and an MX boot in terms of weight and protection. They're Gore-Tex lined so totally waterproof and I never had a problem with my feet overheating, even when dragging the bike out of sand dunes in Morocco. They're also comfortable to walk in.
Oxtar are now changing their brand name to XPD, so you might find a few bargains about with the old Oxtar markings on. Hein Gericke also sell an almost identical boot with their own branding on it for about £150.

Another vote for Atberg. I'm using High Bandog Boot Desert boot. Not waterproof but I don't care.

Worn these in Bosnia, Afghanistan, germany, england, cyprus... I was actually going to write on here that Altberg Peacekeepers with Skywalk soles are THE boot... but someone beat me to it.

waterproof boots
hey mate i have harley davidson fxrg boots 100% waterproof only one out there with laces. bit pricey but very light and comfy.

Altberg!!!!!... 4thed or 5thed or what ever we are on...easily the best boot (motorcycle or other wise) I have ever owned! safe on the bike.. comfortable for all day trekking off! What else could a bike tourist/traveller want.. and mine are 100% water proof. (until you go in water deeper then your thigh, and fall off, and have to swim a 100ft to get back to the bike. and then take 30 minutes get unstuck and out of the stream.. .. and then the seem to leak a tiny bit go figure huh? )

Ehhh, ya'll are daffy

Danner Hood Winter Light are obviously the best boots ever made, been wearing them for 2 decades +. Water doesn't get in unless it tops the boot and surprisingly they're not hot. Indestructible and comfortable.
