used parts for airheads

Ok, ok, I know that new is better but it's also true that new is expensive.
There are a lot of "old" GS in the world, some abandoned, other crashed: who knows sites that sell used parts for BMW airhead and specially for GS?
I post the first one: www.motorworks.co.uk

I used two main suppliers in the UK. 'Motorworks' as detailed above and; www.motobins.co.uk Both were very helpful and a good source of knowledge and parts and both will ship worldwide.

apparently Motorworks will not ship to North America. Blaming, I believe, high insurence/ shipping costs as the issue.

I have had pleasent dealings with Motobins. Not all problem free (poor packaging = damaged goods), but at least they delt with the issues responsibly and I was satisfied in the end.

There is BMW bike wrecker in LA: http://www.thepartshaus.com/ that seems to have a good inventory, although very few GS specific parts. Mind you, finding GS specific used parts is not easy. Likely better luck in Germany - lots on the road there.

Thanks Timo, it's a good suggestion to try in Germany.
So: German people (I know that you are reading) let's post some good link! (also a good translator sw may be useful ...)

Max, there is a translator link on every page - look for the flags... just to the left of this very post for instance.

On the links page is a link to a German supplier of BMW parts - he has everything - The Boxer Shop.

In my experience, GS parts tend to command a higher price due to their relative scarcity in comparison with other Boxers. This is certainly the case in the UK i.e. cross spoke wheels.

I only have experience of Sherlocks in Devon. They shipped a 2nd hand gearbox to southern Germany for me at short notice in September. The local BMW dealer was unable to tell me when the required parts would arrive, so shipping was the only option. The gearbox arrived sooner than expected & all worked out well. GS owning friends in Germany were impressed with the service, cost & availability of parts.

In addition, Sherlocks labour rate is very competitive. Cannot recommend them highly enough.
