Newbie question - should I buy this BMW?

Hello everyone,

I was looking at this BMW for sale here in NY:
The bike has about 65k miles and is currently not running. I'm very confident that the problem is with the Hall Effects (timing) sensors. (The entire HES assembly can be bought from BMW for about $250 or rebuilt for about $15.) After replacing the part, the sensors need to be adjusted. The bike will be rideable then but does need other work.

What do you think? I know it needs work but for under U$S3,000 I think it's a good deal.

I've never owned a BMW MC (had cars 316, 318, 320, 540, etc) but never a Bimmer bike. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cars are Bimmers, bikes are Beemers (just to get you into the correct lingo and everything ).

If you are confident in your assessment of the bike and it's issues, then that would be a good deal. Have you had it looked over by a mechanic? Any othe indicators of general condition? What do you want to use the bike for?
