f650 '08 sump crack
Has anyone had this problem. After having the bash plate fitted, and then doing about a 1500km ride on tar only, the sump developed a crack (see pic for location). The BMW mech. said it seems the Torx bolt on the front may have caused it. He put the bash plate on originally. He also said it would be better to have a spacer between the 2 eye-bolts to stop them pulling together. They are getting me a new sump, but will this happen again

Exactly the same thing happened with my wife's bike (another '08 F650)--sump was replaced but I have been wondering about how to make sure it won't happen again as we plan to take it to Africa soon... I assume the spacer will do the trick, but would like to know for sure!

Sump Crack
When BMW fixed it under warranty they replaced it with a sump the has a built in spacer. Seems mine, and yours, were the earlier model and the later 2008's had the better sump. Just had mine 10k service today, and with my intended Africa trip, the mechanic said the bike will handle it okay.
