Battery charging socket
I want to hook up a solar charger to my F650GS twin. Am I correct in assuming I can't simply do this via the accessory socket due to it cutting power 15mins after ignition off?
If so, is it simple enough to rewire it directly to the battery? Or does it make more sense to wire in an extra new socket? If so where would you suggest mounting it? Thanks for any thoughts!

Have you got a top box?

I don't have a top box - just panniers and tank bag. What were you thinking of?

Permanenty fixing the solar panel to the lid of the top box, and running a wire from there to the battery via a disconnect under the rear seat. Neat, secure and in the best place for catching sunlight.

That is neat. I suppose I could still attach it to the top of one of my (hard) panniers - not quite so ideal but still should do the trick.
