I remember reading somewhere that, around 40,000 km. alterantor belt should be changed. (for 1150GS) .
Does anyone have any idea about this? |

Yup, every 40,000km or 60,000km if you have a 'maintenance free ' belt but I don't know how you tell what kind you have. See attached jpg from the workshop manual.

most belts will eventually break or fail, and need to be replaced before this happens. It is a good idea to carry the old one each time as a spare, because you 'know' it will fit, and sometimes have a stretched old one can make field replacements easier. This does not apply to those belts that take some time to fit such as camshaft belts. If you really need to carry a spare one of those, I suggest you buy two from the same source and batch. check they are the same and fit one. Keep the other for spare.

The 1150 belts are spec'd to be changed at 36,000 miles (USA). Some won't last that long, others will go over 70,000. I've had several, from short-lived to 'will it ever let go'.
As said, always, always carry a spare. |

Mine (2005 1150 Adventure) was changed at the 12000 mile service last week, I didn't ask for it to be changed, is it now a service item at that mileage?

I believe that year model has the newer elastic type belt. To my knowledge, it's spec'd for 36k miles. Your owners manual will tell you, and also stop us all from guessing. Other than an oil filter, I suggest looking at every part that's changed out during a service - to include spark plugs. |

I suggest looking at the il filter too ! I mark mine so that I can see for sure that the dealer has actually changed it and not just charged me for a new one without changing it. I have had this twice previously and caught out BMW dealers who bill you for it without changing the filter. Now I just do it myself so I know it's done.
