German couple on a RTW trip with two 20 years old Hondas arriving in Auckland soon...

G´day to all NZ bikers!

We are Bea and Helle, a young couple from Upper Bavaria in Germany and we are probably doing the adventure of our lifetime, a round the world trip with our two more than twenty years old Honda Transalps!

We started in our home town Burghausen at the 18th of June 2011, so we are “On the Road” now since more than 2 years now.
Since then we crossed 14 countries and covered over 60.000 kilometers on our trusted bikes.
We visited the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and from Vladivostok in the far east of Siberia we shipped our bikes to Thailand. From there we did a loop trough Cambodia, Laos and Thailand before we went down to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and finally East Timor from where we shipped to Australia.

At the moment we are still in Australia – yes, it´s a huge country and it took us over a year to travel around and we also worked a little bit to increase our travel funds again.

So far we really had a great time, met some unbelievable helpful and friendly people, rode our bikes trough amazing landscapes and had some real adventures!

On our blog www.timetoride.de and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/Time-to-ride/115955945143396 you can find more information about us, our bikes, about our trip preparations and some travel reports about the countries we visited so far. We also posted lots of pictures and videos about our travel. So if you are interested, we would be very happy if you visit our blog and Facebook page!

But now the time has come to say goodbye Australia, hello New Zealand!

We haven´t been in NZ before but we heard a lot of great stories about the fantastic bike ride possibilities so we are really curious about it!

We have 3 month time to travel around and we are very interested in meeting local bikers, having good conversations, of course drinking the one or another and spending a great time whilst exploring NZ on our bikes!

So if some of you might have some helpful tips for us what to see, where to go, where to stay and so on... that would be great!

When we arrive in Auckland around Christmas we have to stay there for around one week because we have to wait for the bikes to arrive only at the 5th of January with a RoRo ship from Brisbane, so if someone can recommend a cheap place to stay, that would be great!

We hope to hear from you and looking forward to see some of you guys on the road!

Cheers from the bloody hot Outback of Australia
Bea & Helle

Get in touch when you are down the South Island. I know where the good and roads are! May even have space for a night or two.

Best regards

Nigel in NZ (Amberley, just north of Christchurch)

Hi Nigel!

Thanks for the offer! Especially the tasting sounds very inviting to us, as we are fom Bavaria, where counts as a staple food!

We´ll arrive in Auckland around the 3th of January. After that we´ll visit Helle´s siter and boyfriend in New Plymoth. They are on holiday in NZ and managed it to be there at the same time as we are.

But afterwards we have no plans at all. Which acutally is a good plan!

We just know that we have nearly 3 month time to travel around and are really looking forward to it!

Cheers from rainy Brisbane
Bea & Helle

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
