I would bring malaria for up north and ask about Dengi fever medication up north.
As far as snakes goes, don’t worry they usually slink away before you get near them. You are not their food.
But at the same time wear your boots in long grass.

If you make it to Melbourne drop us a line.
Malaria? In Australia? Not that I know of.

Malaria???

Maybe you get a good hit off the pills over a period of time but not worth the damage to your liver!

Anyway we don't have it in Oz yet!! PNG and Solomons yes but not that many people ride in these places.

Cheers
Ivan

In my opinion, the worst are the midges or sandflies. They bite you and (if you are like me) you come up in welts that itch like crazy and last for up to a week.

Combat them with any type of insect repellant. If you do get bitten Ive found Tea Tree Oil works well to get rid of the bumps and an antihistamine (like Telfast) will stop the itching within hours.

Flies are easy, just put up with them, they wont kill you.
Mozzies suck (lol), but most repellants will fix them, and the Tea Tree Oil is good for thier bites as well.

Im with Dingo on this one, nothing special here that you have to really worry about so long as you have a clue. Nothing like the huge-ass mozzies they had in Russia on the Long Way Round video...scary.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
