Seat covers
My Defender beaded seat covers were great in Africa, but sadly over a period of about 4 months the nylon holding all the beads together started to snap and the beads slowly got left behind as I went along.
Can anybody recommend some good Defender seat covers for hot climates? I'd happily use beads again, but only if they were much stronger in the way they were held together. I've just looked at ExMoor trims covers - canvas and some super duper Nasa Nylon, but they are rather pricy compared to the 12 quid for each beaded seat cover previously used.... Any suggestions?

Hi Darrin
I use the Melville & Moon seat covers and they are very comfortable and well made, also come with handy little zip up pockets positioned on the inside(facing the passenger and Vica versa) of the back rest and also the usual behind the back rest. These are very good quality and although I have'nt taken them into the desert yet I have done long trips in the UK and they have been very good. Good luck in you search Peter

I like the Jackal Berry covers from South Africa. They'll ship anywhere. Jackal Berry Canvas Solutions Cool in the heat, kinda cool in the cold too! Cheers, Nick.

Thanks guys, they all look nice, but they are also so far more expensive then Ex Moor trims £165 set.
Maybe I will just use a couple of fluffy towels as I was originally thinking of doing ;-)

Don't give up on the beaded seat covers yet. IMHO waterproof covers are good for protecting the upholstery but get clammy and unpleasant in hot weather. I'd repair the beads using thicker beading nylon line or cord and a large eye needle. You can get those articles on ebay for a few quid.

Cheers Roman, the cheap and cheerful waterproof variety of seat covers are obviously just sweat buckets in hot climates - but it seems there isn't much inbetween price wise as the canvas/outlast covers are all very expensive.
I'd like the beaded seat covers again, but doubt I would be bothered to thread a stronger piece of thread through every bead - there must be a few hundred and you'd need a really long piece of string. I think the main problem was that I would often kneel/stand on them when accessing things in the back, and also it seemed impossible to get them to fix to the seat firmly - I ended up with three stripes of duct tape around the head rests but even then they moved around alot which is why they fell apart. Perhaps I just need to find another brand and hope they are stronger....?

I had khaki canvas ones made in Senegal for as cheap as 5€ each.
both Melvin & Exmoor is wayoverpriced. Try to find someone who can stich canvas and make them yourself. Canvas is the way to go for hot climate.
