Soltracks

We once teamed-up with a couple wich uses these soltracks.

Very practical, fast and light. Because they are light you don't have to tie them down and untie them everytime you are only needing a small help, just throw them in the back or squeeze them inbetween your gear, under a matress, behind your seats.
Only when things get real nasty, you would want proper plates.
When you're to stuck to move they don't wrap! maybe they will get pushed away but then you should have stopped earlier anyway and use shovels and/or plates for recovery. When your tyres sqid on them they get some burning/melting marks.

After this experience I've been looking for them, but couldn't find them in the Netherlands. Not to replace my alu-plates but to take along with them, to have something more quicker and easier to use and much lighter to walk with.
Then I can make a beter system to secure the alu-plates and don't have to worrie somuch anymore about easy acces and quickrelease (which always messup when you bend your plates).

About those bridging ladders/waffles, I've no experience. I could not find them overhere either.
They are more or less them same weight as alu-plates aren't they and they cost the same ?

Thanks Sophie&Bart, good answer. Like you I have alu plates (actually 1 cut down the middle to make a narrow pair) which I hardly use but like you I also like the fact that you can chuck the Sols in the back, sit on them etc and have the luxury of a plate per tyre when really stuck.

May get Matt Savage to get some in if anyone in the UK is interested.

Sand mats

Hi all,
Just bought a pair from Matt today. Now stashed under the bed in the back of the Troopie.

Off to Tunisia next month so will report back on how they fared in the dunes.

Happy trails,

Jojo

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
