Hi,

Am new to HUBB, but long time, crusty old motorcyclist...

I just had a WONDERFUL chat with the amazing Mr Coates, in front of the Givi tent at Bike Week in Daytona, 2009.

Yup, he's still on his way to Alaska.

Ian Coates

I had the honour of meeting him at the Ride For Sight weekend in Olds, Alberta on June 12/13/14

I hope he writes a book about his journeys. I guarantee it'll be a best seller.

Exclamation Dangerous colombia

Glad he turned up safe and sound. When ever someone goes awol in Colombia I worry about them. I travelled through colombia earlier this year and met some very ugly charactors and found myself in some very scarey situations.
Although I came through unscathed (but lighter in the wallet), I cannot stress enough how dangerous it can be there, particularly on the Pacific coasty side.
I travelled from Panama City via tramp steamer to Buenaventure - I won´t recomend this route! You are better going via San Blas to Cartehena on a yacht. This way is more expensive, but you a far greater chance of getting there alive!

Ian is in Canda

Hi all

Ian stayed with us on our farm in east central Alberta,Canada for 10 days in early July 2009 and we enjoyed him immensely. He is now riding up thru BC enroute to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. He needs to be out of there by late Aug as the weather can then become a problem. Ian was very fit and rested and eager to continue on his journey to Alaska with plans to ride back down through BC and into the US to winter then to continue his quest next spring to ride across Siberia. Ian was introduced to us by HU members Pat and Belinda Peck. Pat was an old uni friend who I had lost touch with 33 years ago.

ian coates

Ian is my father's cousin.

He's an absolute legend within our family and it's great to hear about his travels.

I last saw Ian at my parents house a while ago when he was planning to go to his daughter's 18th birthday party.

My favourite memory of Ian was in the middle of the funeral procession at my Gandmother's funeral ( Ian's aunty), Ian stopped the car, jumped out and proceeded to show his son how to fix a car at his garage in hebden bridge. He dived back in the car and we carried on. My gran would have loved that!!

Anyway great to hear about him.
