Question Crossing from Cambodia into Laos on bikes registered in Cambodia?

Hi All

Does anyone have any recent info what difficulties are to be expected when trying to cross from Cambodia into Loas on bikes registered in Cambodia? It's going to be two 250cc offroad bikes and maybe a small 100-something moped. All the riders from Europe, visa from Phnom Penh, no carnet, bikes belong to a friend.

Thanks in advance and safe rides!

Jiri

Hi kebabtomten

Thanks for the info! I already stumbled upon the site before and am waiting for the registration process to finish.

There's (and on the HUBB) is some info available and it seems to be no problem at this time. But what I couldn't find any info for is what happens if the bike is not registred in your own name, as in our case it's going to be a Khmer friends bikes.

Thanks, Jiri

I crossed over a couple of years back, so this is not up2date but no one really cared about anything back than. It was a really small borderpost, near a town called Stung Treng (I think).

In the end they told os we needed some kind of paper from town, we told them that we didn't fancy going back there, payed 10$ per bike and where in Laos. Once over there nobody minded the bikes at all.

But then this is about 5 years ago, things might have changed...

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
