Update T1 and T2 roadbooks Tunisia oct '12

Hello travellers,

I did one week ago both the tracks T1 and T2 in Tunisia.

Here are my reports.

* Roadbook T1 Douz - Ksar Ghilane:
Starting point was difficult to find.
Immediately afterwards, the piste was easy to folow.
At KM 40 and after the army camp: the piste does exist, but is very hard to find. There is no clear path on wich you can se where tot go. You have to find your way yourself through the dunes, and since I am not an experienced "trailblazer" and I was alone due to circumstances I regretfully returned.....
Do have to mention that military presence in the form of a Bell Huey Army chopper patrols every day the area and they perfom low fly bys on you just to check out.

* Roadbook T2 El Hamma - Ksar Ghilane:
Ibidem as T1.
The track is very rough indeed: it is a rocky wave board, designed to get every nut 'n bolt loosened up.
After 38 km, at the intersection with the asfalt road Douz-Matmata, the ENTIRE lenght of it to Ksar Ghilane is asfalted, so you can almost race to Ksar Ghilane.....

Apart from that, the country was enjoyable tot travel around (Kairouan, El Jem, Chott El Jerid, Douz, Nefta, Tozeur, Zarzis, Carthago) and I wil go back to see on some day the rest of the north and west. AND try again for that T1 crossing!!

Ferry was 1,5 hr late on depart and some full 16 hrs on returntrip (GNV)...

Happy trails!
