Ceuta Border News Update As At 6 Mar 08

Mu husband "detourer" has just cleared the ceuta border [15 mins ago]. NOTE, Bank/Exchange and Insurance is CLOSED. This is due to a local semi industrial/space rental argument, and "detourer" has been informed that these facilities will remain CLOSED for upto 4 MONTHS!!! Until the local argument has been resolved. "Detourer" was told that if exchange and/or Insurance is required he was to stop at the nearest town and seek out ...............

So where do you buy insurance?

Hi Debbie,

"Until the local argument has been resolved. "Detourer" was told that if exchange and/or Insurance is required he was to stop at the nearest town and seek out ............... "

If the office is closed, where do you buy insurance? How can you get through the border without it? Can you buy insurance in Ceuta before crossing the border?

Insurance at Ceuta/Morocco border

Hi Dave

That's what I'm trying to find out. I've got a green card but some of my group haven't.

Does anyone know if there's a Moroccan insurance agent in Ceuta who will issue insurance before the border. Or will customs let you through so you can buy insurance at the first town you come to in Maroc? (unlikely)

I believe they - or police to be precise - will. I have done it myself a few times in Mk, usually because there was nowhere open at a port to buy insurance (and no one asked for it anyway). If you get pulled just explain the situation and say you are buying it directly.

(I had an impression that green card extensions for Mk were increasingly hard to get - from UK insurers at least, but that was a few years ago).

Money as we know can easily be got from cashpoints.

Buying insurance at Ceuta border crossing

Latest advice from Moroccan Embassy in London is that travellers will be let through without as long as they purchase insurance at the next town (Fnideq).

Anyone out there at the moment to confirm?

What's the situation like at Tangiers?

Does anyone have an update on this, are the insurance and bank huts still closed at Ceuta?

Does anyone have a GPS co-ord for Sadda Assurance in Fnideq?

One of our groups passed through Ceuta a couple of hours ago. NO INSURANCE OFFICE......but those that needed insurance were let through without. Cash exchange no problem at first town.

I am meeting group and going to try Sadda [not helpfull on phone] later today and will post outcome......

entering Morocco via Ceuta - Insurance

We entered via Ceuta yesterday. Insurance office and banks are closed indefinately. Story is that the whole frontier area is being redeveloped.

We had no luck with Saada Assurance. However all was sorted when we got to Meknes. Courtassur Assurance 67 Avenue des FAR, Meknes. Ask for Said Boutoba. (great coffe and chat!) 880 Dhirams for one months insurance - same as we used to pay at the border.

Thanks Jojo, we will be passing Meknes on our way South so will try and get there before they close, I hope they're open on Saturday.

I don't suppose you managed to log a waypoint for Courtassur Assurance for us to aim for?
